On this last Sunday of Ordinary Time for the liturgical year, we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. This feast was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925, at a time when the world was experiencing a rise of secularism, materialism and individualism, and an increasing denial of Christ’s existence and authority The hope was that the establishment of this feast would accomplish three goals: that nations would see that the Church has the right to freedom, that leaders and nations would see that they are required to give respect to Christ, the King of kings, and that the faithful would be strengthened and encouraged by the reminder that Christ must reign in our hearts, minds, wills, and bodies. This feast is needed more than ever for all people and for us especially, as Christian stewards. It reminds us of three vital truths. First, even when it seems the world is spinning out of control, we need not fear because we have a King of kings who is very much in charge and who is loving, merciful and just. Second, if Christ is king of all, then He is also king of me, personally. I am not “lord” of my time, talents, and treasure. He is. I am a servant of the King and a steward of His gifts to me. Third, as His disciple, I am called to imitate my King. Christ’s kingship is characterized by humble service, by emptying Himself for the good of others, The Scriptures tell us He went about doing good and He says of Himself, “I came not to be served but to serve.” How can I live in any other way than as a humble servant like my King?
En este último domingo del Tiempo Ordinario del año litúrgico, celebramos la Fiesta de Cristo Rey. Esta fiesta fue instituida por el Papa Pío XI en 1925, en un momento en que el mundo estaba experimentando un aumento del secularismo, el materialismo y el individualismo, y una creciente negación de la existencia y autoridad de Cristo. La esperanza era que el establecimiento de esta fiesta lograra tres objetivos: que las naciones vieran que la Iglesia tiene derecho a la libertad, que los líderes y las naciones vieran que están obligados a dar respeto a Cristo, el Rey de reyes, y que los fieles se sintieran fortalecidos y alentados por el recordatorio de que Cristo debe reinar en nuestros corazones, mentes, voluntades y cuerpos. Esta fiesta es más necesaria que nunca para todas las personas y para nosotros especialmente, como administradores cristianos. Nos recuerda tres verdades vitales. Primero, incluso cuando parece que el mundo está fuera de control, no debemos temer porque tenemos un Rey de reyes que está muy a cargo y que es amoroso, misericordioso y justo. En segundo lugar, si Cristo es rey de todo, entonces también es rey de mí, personalmente. Yo no soy “señor” de mi tiempo, talentos y tesoros. Él lo es. Soy un siervo del Rey y un administrador de los dones que Él me ha dado. En tercer lugar, como su discípulo, estoy llamado a imitar a mi Rey. La realeza de Cristo se caracteriza por el servicio humilde, por vaciarse de Sí mismo por el bien de los demás. Las Escrituras nos dicen que Él anduvo haciendo el bien y Él dice de Sí mismo: “No vine para ser servido, sino para servir”. ¿Cómo puedo vivir de otra manera que como un siervo humilde como mi Rey?

Christmas Bazaar
Save the Date! The Christmas Bazaar is just one month away! Mark your calendars for Sunday, December 1st. This year’s event will be a fun-filled, welcoming social gathering with food, music, shopping, and a visit from Santa! We will not be hosting a White Elephant booth this year. Instead, we’re asking for donations of bakery items, gift plants, homemade crafts and Christmas-themed items. Your contributions will help make the event even more special!

Intermediate Bible Study
Intermediate Bible Study continues each Saturday after the 8:00 AM mass in the St. Timothy Parish Center. Barby and Deacon Faiva dig deeper into each Book of the Bible to add an enriching more comprehensive learning experience. The class continues each week studying Genesis to Revelation. No deep understanding of the bible is necessary. Everyone is welcome.
